Broken Heart

The momentary lapse of memory, the calmness of the day is dawning
Shattered by the internal darkness, your empty heart consumed in mourning
Dreams of happier times, a better place, a feeling of utter contentment
Replaced by the reality of loneliness, fear, jealousy and resentment

But the hollow pain has grasped me from my temporary vacation
And my mind is wandering helplessly to thoughts of desperation
The blanket of pessimism covering positive aspiration
Gasping for breath, searching for light amidst utter desolation

Reminiscent of the past the feeling burns within my soul
Future bleak, forever trapped inside my deepest, darkest hole
Try and try to return myself to the semi conscious state of calm
Forcing shut my eyes, a temporary fix to keep my heart from harm

Reliving moments, past regrets like vultures circling my mind
A silent cry, an atheist�s prayer, a wish to leave it all behind
Praise the new day, keeping busy, staying strong, the friends suggest
Hiding inner demons, night terrors and the truth from all the rest

The wound that time forgot still raw, bursts open with the waking day
Release me from this tortured prison, cast my crippling thoughts away
Blind now to the beauty of the world and optimism is a friend no more
Here lies the broken hearted man without his love, his life unsure.

Thanks for your comments - it was meant to be a sarcastic statement from a soldier about how they're expected to kill in vain with no remorse. I built the sarcasm through contrasting "Worthy" and "Vain".

The Pain In My Heart

How do I explain the pain in my heart,
The pit in my stomach that tears me apart

I walk through my blessed life, trying to smile
When inside I am dying all the while

How do I apologize for the wreckage I�ve created?
I don�t make my family feel loved or appreciated

I have all that I could want in life and more
And still I am so selfish � right down to the core

I know I must quit or I might die
I�m watching my whole life pass me by

I finally found the love of my life
And I am ****ing it up and causing him strife

How do I stop, I so wish I knew
I�ve failed so many times � I don�t know what to do

I want you to know I never wanted to hurt you
I love you, I�m sorry � how much, I wish you knew

Thank you for staying in spite of the lying
And I�ll do what I can � I will NEVER stop trying
